So bitcasa the cloud storage provider. Originally made a big splash promising unlimited cloud storage for affordable prices. Well that’s no longer the case.
As of today they have changed their pricing plans, from $99 dollars a year for unlimited cloud storage to $999.99 a year for the unlimited option. They also have been promising a linux client for over a year now and recently held signups for beta testing.
With this new price structure they have decided to allow users under the old price structure to keep their plans so long as they don’t cancel their subscriptions. The catch though is that grandfathered plans will not have access to the Linux Client upon release.
So while some might be content to trust a company that would up and switch things around without forewarning I personally will be investing and some more hard drives and building up my own home back up plans. Besides between owncloud, googledrive, and dropbox my photo/document needs are covered and if I need access to my media for streaming I can do that with plex . I may invest in crashplan though just in case anything ever goes wrong.
I’m just really pissed off about this whole thing because I spent two and half months uploading a little over 5 terabytes worth of data.
Oh and as far as that bitcasa linux client goes, as far as I’m concerned at this point it’s just vaporware
